Implementation Date: May 4, 2022
Effective May 4, 2022, the activity prohibited under Utah’s law regarding the use of wireless communication devices while driving is expanded. Specifically, an individual may not use a wireless communication device while operating a moving motor vehicle on a highway to perform certain functions, including but not limited to:
Writing or sending a written communication, including an email;
Dialing a phone number;
Accessing the Internet;
Reading a written communication, including a text message; or
Viewing a video or photograph.
However, an individual is not prohibited from using a wireless communication device in certain situations, including for voice communications.
In addition, the amended law modifies the definition of wireless communication device.
